missing mouse on vmware server or esx(i) vm with vmware tools installed

I have had this one crop up occasionally and I can’t ever remember the fix so I’m posting it here.  Basically this happens if you had a microsoft vm that you cloned, p2v’ed, imported, etc into any of the vmware products. It doesn’t matter if you uninstall the microsoft vm additions first. The fix is to delete a registry key. Link to article at vmware.

I had to install the SMTP service on a 2008 server today for the first time, and Microsoft does not make it easy.

  1. The SMTP install is under features and not under roles.
  2. When you do install SMTP, where do you manage it, you wonder. Thanks to google and this link, I now know that you have to use the IIS6 manager. What??!!
